10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Peter Precourt: Roller coaster: Excerpts from the Katrina Chronicles
Art Exhibition of drawings by Maine based artist Peter Precourt.  The exhibition is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the LMU Center for the Arts in Cumberland Gap.

With this body of work, Precourt explores the devastation he and his family personally experienced at the hands of 2005's Hurricane Katrina. This body of work looks to contextualize the history of the storm as it specifically affected Mississippi and its gulf coast. He finds in the storm (and its coverage) a familiar narrative of ignoring the plight of Mississippi, a state often looked down upon if looked upon at all. Through the use of text and image and a mixture of drawing materials Precourt takes us into the destroyed landscape that was Mississippi in the aftermath of the storm. The artist seeks to find his place in the world post-Katrina and how it affected (or didn't) the American recognition of the continuing struggles of one our most vulnerable places.

The exhibiton runs from August 15-September 21 at the LMU Center for the Arts.
