Fielight Learners: Blast ot the 19th Century Past!
Start Date: 9/11/2018Start Time: 1:00 PM
End Date: 9/11/2018End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description:

The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum is proud to announce its new program for homeschool families: Firelight Learners. This monthly program will introduce children from a range of ages about topics such as history, science, civics, and the arts!

For our September program, students will be introduced to Abraham Lincoln’s life on the Kentucky and Indiana frontiers. Although he had only one formal year of schooling, he was a “firelight learner” – he took the opportunity to read and study on his own whenever possible, even if it was by firelight. This led to him eventually becoming a lawyer, a politician, and the 16th president of the United States! Participants will take a guided tour through our new exhibit, Log Halls to Marble Walls, and then participate in the activities of a 19th century classroom. Older students will assist younger students with their ABCs and penmanship, and then be taught a lesson on rhetoric and recitation! Children of all ages are welcome to attend this event.
